Jan 3, 2002. Bill Gates shares the stage with The Rock. Not a drill, this time, they are actually showing off a gaming console. It feels distant now but it wasn’t even two decades ago. Fast forward to this past Sunday. Microsoft pulled the curtain back on the Xbox Series X 25. It looks like they want you to remember where they started. Or at least where the money came from first.
The hardware is loud. Literally. That original OG green is back, but now it’s translucent. You can see through it, which is nice for the vibe if you hate seeing your cables clutter. It’s the 25th anniversary edition. Obviously. Inside? They hid Easter eggs. Tiny nods to the bulky beige box from the turn of the century.
The console holds 1TB of storage
That’s the standard setup. But look at the controller. The wireless one matches. Same green tint. Same translucent shell. The face buttons? They aren’t the rainbow you’re used to now, they’re the old colors. Black and white bumpers too. The Xbox logo is printed right on the back. It screams retro, hard.
So here’s the problem. They aren’t saying how much it costs. Not a penny. Just “November.” And don’t get excited yet because it’s limited. Specific markets only. Which means probably not you. Or if you do get it, you might be paying a premium just to have it sit next to your other console gathering dust.
Why limit availability when everyone wants in? Maybe it’s scarcity marketing. Maybe they just don’t have the inventory. Either way, it’s annoying. You want the green. You have to wait. And maybe hope you’re lucky enough to be in a “certain market.”
